UC Admissions: Increasing Competitiveness

Written by PathIvy Admin | Apr 8, 2021 4:00:00 AM

It’s no secret that college admissions have rapidly become increasingly selective over the past couple years, but what are the numbers?

Looking at the nine esteemed University of California campuses, competitiveness has risen due to a sharp incline in the number of applicants. There has been a full 18% increase in applications university-wide between 2020 and 2021, reaching as 28% for the most contested campuses, UC Berkeley and UCLA.

The University of California campuses look at admissions holistically – meaning that the full application is considered (essays, grades, extracurriculars, leadership, talents, etc). With the UC system’s recent decision to fully eliminate ACT/SAT test scores from consideration, it is more important for applicants to ensure that their entire application is as cohesive and well-developed as possible.

With the college admissions scene experiencing a consistent, upwards trend in application numbers and selectivity, having a well-defined application is more important than ever.
